Chaos at Celtic AGM as Shareholders Revolt and Meeting is Abandoned

What should have been a routine AGM at Celtic Park turned into one of the most chaotic and confrontational shareholder meetings in recent memory, ending in an early adjournment after open protests, furious exchanges, and a board utterly misreading the mood of the room.

🎬 Flashpoint: Attempt to Play Propaganda VT Sparks Outrage

The trouble began almost immediately.

As Peter Lawwell tried to move proceedings onto a glossy “year in review” video — widely viewed as a piece of self-serving propaganda rather than legitimate AGM business — one shareholder stood up and formally moved to skip the VT entirely and proceed to the next agenda item.

The room erupted. Shouts, protests, and loud objections broke out across the hall.

The VT was stopped. The AGM ground to a standstill, and for the next half hour, nothing happened.

đŸŽ™ïž Ross Desmond Pours Petrol on the Fire

When the AGM finally resumed, things escalated even further.

With Dermot Desmond absent yet again, his son Ross Desmond delivered a statement that only deepened the fracture between board and supporters. After stressing his father’s “Celtic credentials” and insisting the board were lifelong “Celtic men,” he launched into an astonishing attack on supporters, claiming that many who criticise the board are “people whose only vocation in life is being anti-establishment and not contributing to society.”

Shareholders reacted instantly and ferociously. The room erupted into shouting and angry challenges. Some were visibly shocked; others were enraged.

Ross then made matters worse by invoking the controversial incident involving police and the standing section at the Falkirk home match, using it as a justification for the board’s stance. This drew a furious response, with multiple shareholders calling it a disgraceful and manipulative tactic.

🚹 Meeting Abandoned as Tensions Boil Over

At that point, the meeting had become completely untenable.

Shareholders were standing, shouting, and openly confronting the platform. The atmosphere was beyond repair.

With no route back to productive discussion, the board abandoned the AGM altogether, formally adjourning it to be reconvened at a later date.

A ‘small number’ of people whose only vocation in life is being anti-establishment and contributing nothing to society - according to billionaire’s son Ross Desmond.

🧭 What This Means

Rather than calming tensions or rebuilding trust, this AGM became a public display of the widening gulf between Celtic’s board and its supporters.

The board had an opportunity to engage honestly with shareholders, answer serious questions, and show a degree of humility after a chaotic period. Instead, they offered propaganda, defensiveness, and hostility — and the entire meeting collapsed because of it.

When the AGM reconvenes, one thing is clear:

Celtic supporters will not be patronised, intimidated, or blamed for demanding better from their own football club.

The events today weren’t just embarrassing — they were a stark reminder of the leadership crisis at the heart of Celtic.
