Midtjylland 3-1 Celtic: Another Night to Forget

Apologies for no preview tonight — I’m in the middle of packing for a move this weekend and completely lost track of time. Unfortunately, Celtic looked like they’d rather have been anywhere else too.

This was an awful performance from start to finish. Midtjylland, a club operating on barely a quarter of Celtic’s budget, completely outplayed and outfought us. The 3–1 scoreline actually flatters Celtic — it could easily have been far worse.

From the first whistle, the Danish side were sharper, quicker, and far more cohesive. They pressed intelligently, moved the ball with purpose, and showed exactly the kind of tactical clarity and drive that Celtic are still crying out for. Their intensity was relentless, and we never found a response.

Celtic looked flat, disorganised, and second best all over the park. Basic mistakes, slow reactions, and a lack of fight summed up a miserable night. The midfield couldn’t get a grip, the defence looked vulnerable throughout, and there was no real attacking spark.

What makes it even harder to take is that Midtjylland are showing exactly what Celtic could be — a well-run club punching above their weight, top of their Europa League group, and proving that ambition and structure matter more than size.

Once again, we’re left wondering what this team might achieve if our board stopped hoarding cash and actually backed the footballing side properly. Instead, nights like this remind us just how far behind we’ve fallen in Europe.

A poor showing, plain and simple — and one that demands more than excuses.
